The NFL handed down three suspensions on Thursday, July 2, 2015.
San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates is now suspended four regular season games without pay for violating the league’s policy for performance-enhancing substances. Gates will not be able to compete against the Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, and Cleveland Browns. The Chargers tight end can participate in offseason and preseason activities. Gates can return to action on October 5. The Chargers first game with Antonio Gates in 2015 will be in week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The NFL also suspended New York Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson for violating the league’s policy of Program for Substances of Abuse. Richardson will be suspended for the first four regular season games and can return to the field in week 5. Sheldon Richardson can participate in offseason and preseason activities.
Linebacker Rolando McClain of the Dallas Cowboys has also been suspended four regular season NFL games. McClain is suspended due to violating the NFL’s policy of substances of abuse. McClain can return to the football field in week 5.
